How to Use Variable Dice in Honkai: Star Rail

As of Version 3.0 of Honkai: Star Rail, you can now reroll your sub stats on a Relic using Variable Dice. This can help breathe new life into Relics with good stats but poor RNG.

Where to get Variable Dice in Honkai: Star Rail

When you first log into the game after Version 3.0 comes out, you will receive a free Variable Dice from the game. This’ll let you get a feel for using it. However, because it’s so valuable, I personally don’t recommend using it unless it’s for a character you want to build and the Relic was a really good one. Like, I wouldn’t use it on a Relic if it only has one good sub stat.

As of the time of writing, there are only two ways to get Variable Dice in the game:

• Reach Level 40 of the Nameless Glory BP (this is the paid version)
• Synthesize it using 3 Self-Modeling Resin

Synthesizing it is a reliable way of getting more per patch (and a free way, too). However, Self-Modeling Resin is as valuable a resource as Variable Dice. With the addition of Wishful Resin, it’s easier to get the exact Relic you want using Self-Modeling Resin. So whether you want to prioritize that or Variable Dice really depends on what your individual needs are.

How to use Variable Dice

Using Variable Dice in Honkai: Star Rail is very easy. You can only use it on a Level 15 Relic. At the bottom, where “Enhance” would be, is the new “Reroll” option. After clicking it, you can check out the new stat distribution, then either accept it or keep your original stats. It’s important to keep in mind that even if you keep the original stats, you will consume a Variable Dice if you reroll. So only use it if you’re sure, or if you have an ample supply of the dice.

The effects of the Dice are pretty straightforward. It redistributes the sub stats’ enhancements, but it doesn’t change out the sub stats that are already on the relic. Let’s say you have a Relic with flat ATK, flat DEF, Crit Rate, and SPD. All the enhancements went into flat ATK and flat DEF. You could use the Variable Dice to try and redistribute the enhancements to Crit Rate and SPD, but nothing in the game at the moment will get rid of those flat stats outside of simply farming for a new Relic.

Variable Dice is an easy way to fix any good Relics you have that could be better, but it’s not going to fix Relics that were bad to start with. Choosing which Relics and character to use them on (as well as praying to the RNG gods) can help you to power up your teams without needing to use up any Trailblaze Energy you might want to burn on something else.
