Plunderstorm has made its triumphant return to World of Warcraft for 2025, but just how long do you have to enjoy the event before it ends? Do you need to rush to earn enough Plunder for all of the rewards, or can you relax and take it day by day?
When does Plunderstorm 2025 end in World of Warcraft?
Plunderstorm returned to World of Warcraft on January 14, 2025, with no end date mentioned in the official announcement. We reached out to Blizzard, who confirmed that Plunderstorm currently does not yet have an official end date.
The PTR (public test realms) for Plunderstorm initially showed an end date of February 18, 2025. However, this doesn’t necessarily apply now that the event is live. Especially considering all mentions of an end date have been removed from the in-game calendar.
The initial run of Plunderstorm ran from March 19, 2024, to May 1, 2024, lasting a total of six weeks. It’s entirely possible that Plunderstorm 2025 will follow this pattern again, which would line up with the February 18 calendar date on the PTR. It’s also worth noting that an end date wasn’t given to the initial run of Plunderstorm for around one month.
Speculation aside, Blizzard made it clear to us that there is no official end date for Plunderstorm right now. We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled (or at least the one not covered by an eyepatch) to see how long we have left to earn those pirate goodies.
While you’re out there working your pegleg off, don’t forget that Turbulent Timeways is also currently active. During the event, you can earn the Timely Buzzbee mount by gaining a specific buff during five separate weeks.
Will Plundersurge (double Renown) return in 2025?
“Plundersurge” was a buff active during the final two weeks of Plunderstorm 2024, providing players with double Renown. As the brand-new Plunderstore replaced the previous Renown system, Plundersurge can’t return in its original form.
An event similar to Plundersurge may occur at some point toward the end, though nothing has been confirmed or hinted at. I’m personally holding out for double plunder.
What’s new in Plunderstorm 2025?
This year, Blizzard made some much needed quality-of-life changes to Plunderstorm based on fan feedback. The most significant is the introduction of the Plunderstore, which allows players to buy any Plunderstorm reward in exchange for Plunder. No need to grind Renown anymore!
There are also brand-new spells, such as Call Galefeather and Celestial Barrage, and balance changes to some spells from the previous year.
If that wasn’t enough, you can now choose your landing zone, eliminating the RNG of where you begin the match. Speaking of starting the game, you can now queue for Plunderstorm inside regular World of Warcraft through the PvP menu.
Finally, Blizzard added a new “Practice” mode that places you in the newly-improved lobby without queuing you for a match. Here, you can test out any spell at your leisure or talk to Da’kash Grimledger to change your outfit, title, pets, or weapons.
World of Warcraft and the Plunderstorm event are available on PC and Mac.
